Key residents Esther Mae Steinman, age 82, and Dorothy
Edith Steinman age 88 both died Jan. 23, 2004.
Dorothy
was born January 22, 1916 in Memphis, Tennessee and her
sister, Esther was born Dec. 7, 1921 in Detroit,
Michigan. They lived together in the Florida Keys for
more than 25 years, coming here from Dearborn, Michigan,
Dorothy
and Esther served on the Duck Key Property Owners
Association Board in past years and provided their
property for use during Welcome Back Snowbird Parties for
more than a decade.
Dorothy
retired as an executive secretary for a rigging company
while Esther retired as an executive secretary with Ford
Motor Co.
Dorothy
and Esther were active members of Kirk of the Keys
Presbyterian Church in Marathon. Both were also avid
members and longtime supporters of the Marathon Garden
Club.
Both
Dorothy and Esther gave time to community causes in
Marathon. Esther was formerly an active volunteer for
Hospice in the Marathon area. She also served as a board
member and volunteer at the Grace Jones Day Care Center.
Dorothy was formerly an active volunteer for the Monroe
County Sheriff's office as wello as a volunteer at
Fishermen's Hospital.They were preceded in death by their
parents, Archie and Edith Steinman, and two brothers,
Glen and Fred. Dorothy was also preceded by her longtime
companion, Robert Thomson. Survivors include five nieces
and their families, seven great-nephews and one
great-niece, as well as numerous great-great-nieces and
nephews.
A
memorial service was held on Jan. 29 at Kirk of The Keys
in Marathon.
The
family has requested memorial donations be made to a
charity of choice in Esther's and Dorothy's name. Their
remains were to be flown to Michigan for burial. Seven
Seas Funeral Home and Jeffrey W. Dean were in charge of
all local arrangements.
