Here are some of the service calls made to Duck Key by Monroe County Sheriff's personnel during the period April 20 to May 25, 2009. Duck Key is usually quiet, but this time of year the island gets more vacation visitors. In addition to medical calls, civil matters and disorderly conduct complaints, there have been reports of criminal mischeif, disorderly intoxication, trespassing, burglary and theft.
On April 17 at 5:12 AM there was a report of an attempted robbery of the Centenial Bank ATM machine. The machine was damaged and was still out of order on May 3, 2009. The photo below shows the front part of the ATM machine torn off. A video surveilance camera at the bank property was taken, but not the bank tape recording machine.
Additionally the Hawk's Cay Villiage Property Owners' Association office and the Hawks Cay Watersports Building were broken into.

Countywide in 2008 there were 4 murders, 42 rapes, 90 robberies, 256 aggravated assaults, 889 burglaries, 2870 larcenies,and 271 motor vehicle thefts. Key West with about 30% of the population of Monroe County accounted approximately for 70% of the rapes, 83% of the robberies, 41% of assaults, 45% of burglaries, 44% of larcenies, and 68% of car thefts.
