: DCA's slacking oversight endangers Florida
Keys
May, 2002 Key News
editorial
A recent editorial
comments that the "DCA was paying enough attention to
overturn the Hawk's Cay fiasco, " but wonders whether the
DCA is relinguishing oversight of the Florida Keys in
general due to political influences in
Tallahassee.
The editorial
suggests that continued DCA oversight is necessary
because county commissioners has trouble in the manner of
making decisions.
The editorial
states, " After watching the county commissioners and
other elected and appointed leaders squabble over
wastewater funding, downstairs enclosures, vacation
rentals and other crucial growth issues -- not just in
the past, but in current and continuing debates -- we
don't think Keys officials have changed the way they make
growth and development decisions. '
