MINUTES
OF MEETING
DUCK KEY SECURITY DISTRICT ADVISORY BOARD
March 12, 2002 County Government Annex
The
meeting was called to order at 9:00 on March 12, 2002.
Dick Adler, Dick Holland, Dennis Kulig, Ray Przybyl,
Gerald Fortier, and Dick Adler were in attendance. Also
in attendance were Dixie Danzis, Mike Danzis, Joe
Fernandez and Sheriff Voss. Notice of the meeting's place
and date was advertised in the Keynoter according to
County requirements.
SECRETARY'S
REPORT
Minutes
from the prior Security Board meeting were read. A motion
to approve the minutes as read carried.
A
proposed agenda for the meeting was distributed by the
Secretary.
CHAIRMAN'S
REPORT
In the
absence of a Chairman, Gerry Fortier gave a report on the
state of the security district. Matters discussed
involved barking dog problems, locking house doors,
fishermen on residential property. No robbery incidents
were reported.
OLD
BUSINESS
The
status of a substation was discussed along with golf
carts on the island.
The
Security District Advisory Board will provide information
to DKPOA for their newsletter on home owner rights as to
dog control.
There is
a need to follow-up on County's efforts on the propose
Duck Key Security District Building. Letter to Jim
Roberts on 1-29-2002 informed County that at its January
meeting,
"The
Advisory Board . . . voted to request that the County
initiate steps which will lead to the construction of
a small building for use by Security District contract
personnel on land presently leased to the Security
District on Indies Island. The building to meet
requirements for possible use as a Monroe County
Sheriff's substation for personnel assigned to this
sector. "
NEW
BUSINESS.
The
Advisory Board on the Security District passed motions on
several matters.
The
Advisory Board passed a motion to purchase a radar gun at
a cost of about $200 for use by the Security Patrol.
The
Security District Advisory Board also voted to have
Chairman Tom Nevelle follow up on the following
matters:
1.
Request monthly computer reports from the Sheriff's
office regarding Duck Key patrol coverage
2.
Arrange a Security District Meeting with Sheriff Roth
to discuss use of Security District building as a
possible sheriff's substation.
3. Get
figures from County Administrator's Office on Ad
Velorem taxes for the Security District.
A motion
was approved to adjourn the meeting.
