Letter to Property Owners on Expansion of Duck Key Security District

The DKSD Advisory Board met in June to follow the procedure established.

DATE: May 13, 2003

TO: All Duck Key Property Owners

FROM: Duck Key Security District Advisory Board

RE: Security District Meeting - May 13, 2003

Please be advised that the Duck Key Security District Advisory Committee met on May 13, 2003 to discuss the possible expansion of the security district to include all of the property owners on the island, i.e. Hawk's Cay Resort Villas at Hawk's Cay & other The proposed expansion was approved by the Advisory Board. The final approval of said recommendation will be made by the Monroe County Commission.

Expanding the Security District will enable the said District to increase security for the entire island complex to 7 days per week., 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. In addition, it will provide funding for a gatehouse at the entrance to the island and facilitate the construction of a building to house both security personnel and a deputy from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department. All of these improvements can only occur by expanding the security district and thus increasing gross revenues,

It should be noted that there are no additional coats to the existing property owners that already participate in the special taxing district and the yearly assessment will not change.

Also approved by the Board was a motion to amend the make-up of the advisory board to reflect an equal representation of all property owners. Representation on the Board going forward will be 50/50, Hawk's Cay Resort, the Villas and other and the residential islands of Duck Key. This recommendation also requires the approval of the Monroe County Commission.

If you need further information regarding this matter, please feel free to contact me or our County Commissioner, David Rice.

Sincerely yours,

Tom Neville,
