5. Wastewater Construction - Notices, pictures
6. Bridge Repairs/ bike/walking lane - new bridge speed limit set at 15 mph in March, 2011 on structurally deficient bridge.
One year ago County Engineer Judith Clarke wrote to the Duck Key Property Owners' Association on 4/20/10 about anticipated bridge repairs.
"We received $1,159,000 in funding from Department of Transportation to perform repairs to the bridge from US 1 to the Island (it is the one in the worst shape). The county will match the DOT funds with approximately $400,000 of its own out of the road and bridge fund. That agreement with DOT is on tomorrow's agenda for the board to approve and then we will get proposals from engineering firms to do the repair design and permitting. I anticipate that construction on that will begin in late fall.
As I mentioned previously there is additional impact fee money that can be used for pedestrian bridges or widening the existing bridges to allow for a bike/walking lane. I have tentatively reserved the funds but have not taken the impact fee expenditure before the board for approval yet. When the design firm that will do the repairs on the larger bridge goes out to inspect it as part of that project we intend to have them take a look at the two hump back bridges and give us an idea of the feasibility of widening them instead of installing a pedestrian bridge. As long as it is technically feasible and we have the funds it may be a better solution than trying to find a pedestrian bridge that is aesthetically pleasing to everyone."

4. Indies Inn and Yacht Club history
In the 1970s, Herb Cameron used the name Indies Inn and Yacht Club for the resort. The Indies Inn became a happening place. An ad which appeared in a Miami newspaper portrayed the Indies Inn as the place where many good looking girls come to stay on the weekend.
"We're not going to tell you that every good looking girl in Miami splits for Indies Inn every weekend. But we . . . get our share. And then some. Not to mention all the single guys who come because they know."
And the price was right.
"$50.00 and you can bring your own roomate for only $20.00 more. That includes room for two nights, Shipwreck Dinner, Smorgesbord, Champagne Brunch and three complimentary drinks."

5. Halliburton - Most everyone on Duck Key knows of the Halliburton fishing facility on Duck Key. The facility previously owned by Kellog, Brown, and Root was built by Duck Key developer Bryan Newkirk.
While the corporate headquarters of Halliburton were moved to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates in 2007, Halliburton continues to maintain business offices in Houston, a hunting lodge in Texas and the fishing facility on Duck Key
The folks at the Halliburton fishing facility has been good Duck Key neighbors, but the Corporation has once again received negative press. See particulars
