An Information Guide to Duck Key in the Florida Keys

President's Message

Summer has arrived with calmer seas, spectacular sunsets, and schools of dolphin. Our social calendar was busy as ever with a great fishing tournament, a beautiful cruise and brunch, and of course, the infamous blend off. Thanks again to all our hard working volunteers.

The Hawk's Cay development variance hearing was held on May 7, before the Monroe County Planning Commission to rule on changes in width between units. The result of the meeting was that changes were allowed, but in the Lake Lucille portion of the project, the majority of the units are required to stay at ten feet or wider between buildings.

For our members who will be leaving the Keys for cooler waters, I want to remind you that DKPOA has set up a communication hot line in the event of a hurricane in the area. If we lose normal communication with the mainland, the security force and our remaining full-time residents will be able to call us via satellite telephone and will pass on information as to storm damage, travel conditions, etc. I will then relay these messages to a telephone recorder which can be accessed by our members by calling the toll-free number .

Hopefully, we will never have to use our hot line, but it is nice to know in the event of a major storm that our members will be able to know what is happening on Duck Key.

Have a great summer.
