Duck Key Community in the Florida Keys

  

The island community of Duck Key in the Florida Keys is pictured above. Duck Key is a small islet located at mile marker 61 off the Overseas Highway in the Florida Keys. The Hawk's Cay Resort and Village can be seen in the foreground with the homes of the residential Duck Key community behind. Vehicles cross over the island's canals by way of picturesque arched bridges. In the distance is Grassy Key which is part of Marathon. Sixty miles further south is Key West.

COMMUNITY AND VISITOR PORTAL 

This Duck Key community website is a portal to the real world community of Duck Key in the Florida Keys. Duck Key Online created this community website as a resource to residents and visitors of the island community. The site goes beyond serving up local content, and hopes to become a community asset and strengthen relationships within the community by focusing on friends, civic groups and organizations, social clubs, and community businesses.

 

HAWKS CAY AND DUCK KEY ISLAND LODGING

A number of different sources of lodging on Duck Key are available. The list starts with the destination resort, Hawks Cay. DUCK KEY VACATION RENTALS AT HAWKSCAY

Hawks Cay also offers villas which are not a part of the "Preferred" group. Guests get the same veradah and water views, have access to all Hawks Cay amenities, but the villa interiors do not meet the uniformity standards established the Preferred Hotels & Resorts group. Duck Key Villa - French Influence

'St. Pierre', a beautiful two story villa on Duck Key, illustrates the French influence on West Indian architecture. Note the beautiful wrought iron staircase and decorative scrollwork. The soft colour of the Duck Key villas matched with the aged tile roofs imparts the mellow restfulness of the semi-tropical island 95 miles south of Miami."

4. Indies Inn and Yacht Club history

In the 1970s, Herb Cameron used the name Indies Inn and Yacht Club for the resort. The Indies Inn became a happening place. An ad which appeared in a Miami newspaper portrayed the Indies Inn as the place where many good looking girls come to stay on the weekend.

"We're not going to tell you that every good looking girl in Miami splits for Indies Inn every weekend. But we . . . get our share. And then some. Not to mention all the single guys who come because they know."

And the price was right.

"$50.00 and you can bring your own roomate for only $20.00 more. That includes room for two nights, Shipwreck Dinner, Smorgesbord, Champagne Brunch and three complimentary drinks."

5. Halliburton - Most everyone on Duck Key knows of the Halliburton fishing facility on Duck Key. The facility previously owned by Kellog, Brown, and Root was built by Duck Key developer Bryan Newkirk.

While the corporate headquarters of Halliburton were moved to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates in 2007, Halliburton continues to maintain business offices in Houston, a hunting lodge in Texas and the fishing facility on Duck Key

The folks at the Halliburton fishing facility has been good Duck Key neighbors, but the Corporation has once again received negative press. See particulars
